Vladimir Pushkarev has been a professional musician since he age of 18, starting in Moscow Radio and TV Symphony orchestra (conductor Maxim Shostakovich). At the same time he began his teaching career at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Musical Institute.

In the age of 21 he was chosen to become principal trumpet at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre of Opera and Ballet. After having played there for 5 years Vladimir Pushkarev became principal trumpet at Moscow Symphony Orchestra (conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky). He kept this position for 11 years; since 1991 V.Pushkarev plays with the Russian National orchestra (conductor Mikhail Pletnev). From 2000 to 2007 – in the Symphony orchestra "Russian Philharmonic" (conductor Alexander Vedernikov).

As a brass teacher Vladimir Pushkarev holds appointment as a professor of Trumpet and head of Brass and Percussion Department at Ippolitov-Ivanov Musical Institute and Gnessins Russian Academy of music. Working for many years in the field of teaching brass Technique has led to the publication of a series of treatises on physiology and art of trumpet playing
